Yorgos Rigas

Yorgos was born in Thessaloniki, Greece and studied English Language and Literature at the Aristotle University.

Yorgos was born in Thessaloniki, Greece and studied English Language and Literature at the Aristotle University. Working in customer service at a well-known, cruelty free, cosmetics company for quite some time and acquiring multiple job roles on the way, made him realize his fondness not only for self-care, but also for helping people.

During the years of the pandemic, he was introduced to Yoga and Pilates by his mother -already a student of Anima- and quickly became mesmerized by both fields of practice. Love at first sight. It wasn’t long after, that he found a ”mentor” in Alexandra Rossopoulos and has been following her ever since.

In 2023, it was only natural that Yorgos attended the BASI Mat and Comprehensive Teacher Training Program led by Alexandra, Ashley Kim Ritchie and Fabio Caracci.

Besides his passion for Yoga and Pilates, Yorgos loves travelling and Art (Theatre, Cinema, Photography etc.). He enjoys spending his free time with his friends, who rightfully call him ”the life of the party”.

Thanasis began his journey into Yoga in 2006 at Yoga Arts with Joanna Hatzisavva as his teacher, after having practiced martial arts for a long time (Kung-Fu, Qi-Qong, Judo). A special stage in this journey has been the acquaintance and systematic involvement with the system of Aṣṭāṅga Vinyasa Yoga, under the guidance of exceptional teachers.

He has attended numerous trainings on many types of modern Yoga, which have infused in him the belief that Yoga is one and –should be– is simple. He has been authorized to teach the 1st and 2nd series of Aṣṭāṅga Vinyasa Yoga by Manju Jois, Aṣṭāṅga Yoga Guru of Mysore, and Sri K. Pattabhi Jois’s eldest son. Another area of exploration is the Vinyasa Krama Yoga method, which he is currently practicing and studying.

During her studies she attended a lot of fitness seminars, such as Trx L1 & L2, Fight Aerobic, Personal Training, but the Pilates method won a special spot in her heart.
She attended Pilates Mat, Reformer and other Equipment at a Greek fitness school and returned to Volos in 2018, where she worked as a Pilates Instructor at a gym for 4 years.
The need to learn more about the Pilates method led her to Alexandra’s studio in 2019 in order to attend the BASI Pilates for Breast Cancer Recovery workshop taught by Alexandra Rossopoulos. That is when the Basi world came in her life and she decided to attend the BASI Pilates teacher training programs, the Mat Program in 2021 and the Comprehensive Program in 2022 ( Faculty : Alexandra Rossopoulos, Jody Stern, Maria Sylla, Maro Stogiannidou).

She also used to be a Track & Field athlete with Pan-Hellenic awards in Long Jump and Triple Jump for more than 10 years. The injuries she faced that decade were the reason she decided to study at the Physiotherapy department of the Hellenic University of Thessaloniki.
